Description

Purchased from the estate of Bernard Edelman with no limitations, during an estate sale which occurred in the Washington DC metropolitan area during August of 2022.
On Bernard Edelman (1946 – 2021) from his obituary:
“… Ultimately reporting to Vietnam in April 1970, as a broadcast specialist/correspondent, Bernie reported to the information office at U.S. Army headquarters, where he was involved in creating, filming, reporting, hosting, editing news and entertainment radio and television programs for the troops. Although not an infantryman, he spent as much time as he could out in the field – be it with doctors and nurses at an evacuation hospital or with civil affairs troops. Bernie was honorably discharged on January 2, 1971, departing active duty as an E5.
Upon returning to civilian life in Brooklyn, Bernie began a career as a freelance writer and photographer. He co-curated the first Vietnam art exhibit in New York City and was named to the New York Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission by then-mayor Ed Koch. With the Commission, he edited the book Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam, one of the most powerful, influential and important books ever written about the Vietnam War, which is still in publication today. Bernie was also the associate producer for the Emmy Award-winning HBO documentary feature of the same name, which was based on his book.”
